Federico Ferlito is an Italian pianist, originally from Catania. A versatile and eclectic artist, he has distinguished himself among the finest pianists of his generation.
He won the first prize at the 19th edition of the Gianluca Campochiaro International Competition and has garnered recognition in dozens of national and international piano competitions.
Winning the first prize at the Eliodoro Sollima Piano Competition held in Enna in 2014, he secured a contract with KSN Classical, leading to the realization of the discographic project 'The Journey.' This musical journey revolves around the theme of 'travel,' featuring works by Rachmaninov, Liszt, Mussorgsky, and Debussy.
He studied under Francesco Valenti, Corrado Ratto, and later continued his studies with Aquiles Delle Vigne and Anna Kravtchenko. In the academic year 2010/11, he graduated with top honors from the Vincenzo Bellini Music Institute in Catania. Subsequently, in the academic year 2012/13, he obtained an academic diploma of the II level in piano and during the same period attended the International Academy of Music in Coimbra (Portugal) under the mentorship of Aquiles Delle Vigne. Asignificant influence on his education was his encounter with Anna Kravtchenko: under her guidance, he pursued studies at the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland (Lugano), earning a Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy in 2016. He further pursued a Master of Arts in Music Performance, gaining admission as the top student and being awarded a scholarship from the Foundation of the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland. During his formative years, he also specialized with Maestros Franco Scala and Leslie Howard.
He has had numerous solo performances, playing live nationally for Radio Plovdiv in Bulgaria at the 'International Interactive Music Radio Festival' TRIMONTIADA, directed by Galina Vracheva. He performed as a soloist, both live and via live streaming for RAI - Italian Broadcasting Corporation, at the RAI Auditorium in Palermo. In 2011, he performed at the prestigious Winer Saal in Salzburg and at the splendid 'Grande Auditòrio do Conservatòrio de Musica de Coimbra' in Portugal. In 2017, he played at GAM,the main center of the 'Piano Milano City' festival, and further at the Garibaldi Theater in Enna, the Donnafugata Theater in Ragusa Ibla for the 'Ibla Classical International' festival directed by Giovanni Cultrera, then at the Zandonai Theater in Rovereto in collaboration with the Mozart Italia association and Arnaldo Volani. Invited by the Steinway Society directed by Federico Gianello, he performed in Verona at the Sala Montanari.
Since 2019, he has co-founded, in collaboration with pianist Federico Distefano, the duo FERDIS. The duo regularly performsconcerts throughout Italy, notable among them being concerts at the Filarmonica Hall in Rovereto, Casa Mozart, for the SuoniMulticolori festival, and various Italian musical associations. The duo's instinct is to create musical innovations through in-depth exploration of repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary. In February 2020, the Ferdis duo performed and recorded arare four-handed transcription of 'Primavera in Val di Sole' by R. Zandonai for the Zandonai Study Center.
Currently, alongside his concert activities, he is a piano teacher and has recently published a book titled 'La Prima Vista al Pianoforte' ('Sight-Reading at the Piano'), a manual with methods and strategies approached with a scientific and experimental approach for the development of sight-reading in young pianists.
